 Appreciate It More Reading It the Second Time Around
I revisited this book after going to a book talk by Mingfong Ho. In her talk, she recounted how she was inspired to write the book. When the Khmer Rouge was driven from power in 1979, she went back to help refugees fleeing to Thailand. While the story of Cambodia is now one of a country developing and limping into peace, their past isn't one we should forget. In order for many children to appreciate this book, I feel that an introduction into the Cambodian genocide might be necessary as well as covering more recent civil strife which has resulted in refugees fleeing their country. There are more refugees today than in any other time in history. The Clay Marble tells an important story of inspiration and hope.
 Good Book
The book Clay Marble by Minfong Ho was a very good book but boring in parts. I think that you should read this book and get an idea of what it was really like back in those times.
The Clay Marble is Awesome (and sad)
I think that this sbook was awesome because the family had to mmovve away from their home in Cambodia to "The Border", which is in Thailand. Many bad things happen to the family. Including the loss of an important family member. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to read a good book.

Clay Marble review
This book was a great book that was about war and people suffering during a war. Even with this grim plot setting, Dara's family(Dara is the main charachter) makes it to a refugee camp in Thailand called "the border." There they meet a family that lost their mother and father to the war. During their adventures they got attack by vietnamise that were shelling them, got caught up in a military camp and Jantu(Dara's friend) gets shot. Then she dies and Dara and her family move back home. Then ten years later Dara has a child and her family lives peacefully in thier village on the tonle sap lake.
