Yes, readers. read the synopsis before you click buy. It is a poetry book. not a video game.
but it's a still rollicking fun and smart book, if you like invented vernacular and strange city landscapes

Cathy Park Hong invents a bizarre and intricate world set in the future. There are two characters and one of them speaks in a hybrid pidgin of bits and pieces of English slang, Spanish, Korean, Latin, etc. The language may set you off at first. I know I had to start this book a couple times. But give it a chance because once you in it, the book is astonishing: a wonderful playground of musical invented words. And there's a narrative that's strange, sad, timely, violent and also--funny.
Lifeless
The lack of promise displayed in the author's first effort, Translating Mo'um, was fulfilled in this second offering. That this book was published provides further testament to the fact that her networking skills are far stronger than her writing skills. Vapid and dull, save your money. There is nothing new or interesting here.
No lightweight read
The Dance Dance Revolution is a mythic story which takes the form of a poetic tale: here it took place in 1988 and the protagonist is a 'tour guide' of the Desert, a fictional resort city modeled after the world's finest hotels and capitals. Readers of epics like Dante's INFERNO will find this akin in structure and drama, offering up an invented language blending extinct English dialects with Latin, Spanish, Korean and other pidgins. No lightweight read, it's a pick for college-level collections specializing in modern literary poetic structure and is especially recommended for classroom assignment.
