clog dancing Sloppy work
This is a message I sent to Ann rule recently about "No Regrets."
Over the years, I have read every book you have published. I have just finished "The Sea Captain" in No Regrets, and must take you to task for some errors that are quite unforgivable for someone with your apparent knowledge and experience.
On page 104, you refer to a "Winchester .22 Magnum rifle.....which had eleven live rounds in the chamber." Not possible. Perhaps eleven rounds in the magazine, but only one in the chamber.
On the same page, you refer to a "30-06 shotgun, and at least two dozen boxes of bullets, ranging from .22s to 30-06 for a shotgun." There is no such thing as a 30-06 shotgun. The '30-06 is a rifle cartridge.
On the same page, you state of the .38 Smith & Wesson" "Its barrel would also be compared to the land and grooves on any bullet casings they might find." Not possible. A casing never enters the barrel and therefore would show no evidence of the lands and grooves.
On page 122, you remark, "...estimating it was noon in Ohio (3:00 P.M. in Washington State) when her aunt called her." Now, unless the earth has taken to turning in the opposite direction, I think noon in Ohio would be 9 a.m. in Washington.
Quite frankly, I have been a great fan--and will continue to be--but I just find such inaccuracies--no, impossibilities--to be sloppy research and writing and a real detraction from your work. Do you have a less knowledgeable ghost writing your books for you, like Stephen Ambrose ended up doing?????

clog dancing Interesting stories, but poorly written
I usually try to enjoy Ann Rule`s books for what they are...decent retellings of infamous cases. Although her longer works are usually better than these collections (Green River Running Red stands out) I thought this book was rather poorly written. Her phrasing was often lazy as she used certain descriptive terms over and over again. Also, in the book`s second story, she reports several items wrongly, most notably the name of the song that supposedly enraged her while she recounted that particular tale. Overall, it was a disappointing writing effort from an author who should know better.

clog dancing Great reading
I was particularly interested in this book because I lived on a neighboring island in the San Juans when the case of Ruth Neslund was ongoing and was acquainted with some of the people mentioned in the book. I never quite understood at the time why Ruth was found guilty of killing her husband without a body being located. Ann Rule's book was very good in explaining how that happened and the case work that led up to it. Although a few reviewers might have considered all the details tedious, it's all necessary to understand why Ruth Neslund was charged and convicted.

clog dancing Another must read from Ann Rule!
If you are already a fan of Ann Rule, "No Regrets" will not disappoint! The book contains several stories of true crime written in Ann's typical style. It's hard to put down the book until you find out what really happened and "whodunit". I love how Ann digs deeply into the past lives of the people in the stories, and how she puts all the pieces together. It's like a literary puzzle which solves itself as you read on. I've been a huge fan of Ann Rule, former Seattle police woman-turned true crime author, for many years and I've already pre-ordered her next book from Amazon which is due out in November 2007.

clog dancing CALLING ALL ANN RULE FANS.....A MUST READ!!
I do not know how Ann Rule never disappoints me with all of the books of the neverending crime that only she can tell & describe so that you feel you are there. The way she explains the event in details, the investigation steps to finally discover the crime, & the clues that solve the event keeps you on the end of your seat. THIS IS A MUST READ!!
