clog dancing Flat out boring
My wife bought this book for me based on the (inaccurate) Stephen King comparisons. I can truly say it is a total bore. The characters are less than interesting. The dialogue is mundane at best, awful at worst. There are long parts of conversation that don't define the plot. There are other parts that describe, too quickly, bit characters getting "taken" by the antagonist monster. There is no connection with any character (I even tried to like Maria as I grew up a town away from her "hometown", but couldn't). The monster lacks a real identity which makes it hard to find scary or threatening-think of King's "It" as the real deal. I found no tension or suspense build up and the best part about the ending was just that, the end. Brian Keene is no Stephen King.

clog dancing Good Halloween Story
I picked up Ghost Walk as a quick Halloween thriller. It does not disappoint. It is a basic thriller in which evil is trying to take over the world and only a few people know what's going on and can stop it. There is good character development and the story flows along at a good pace.

I did like how the evil being was something created long before man and what it's motivation on destroying everything was. I also like Levi. He's been cast out and on his own, but he still has the strength to take on the challenges given to him.

I am interested in reading the other Brian Keene books. I'm sure the rest are as good as Ghost Walk has been.

clog dancing Avoid - One of the Worst Novels I Have Read
I was quite excited to pick up this book, having loved Dark Hollow and having also enjoyed to varying degrees Ghoul, Conqueror Worms, Rising, City of the Dead and Dead Sea (Rising and City of the Dead being my least favourite until now) by Keene.

Ghost Walk was a huge disapointment. It is a truly dreadful novel. There are no scares and the pacing is so slow that when I gave up on it with about 30 pages to go, there had still been no significant story developments. A few characters get "taken over" by an evil entity, all in the same tedious manner, having been introduced a few pages earlier and having been given a somewhat troubled backstory.

We then have a trio of annoying heroes who engage in woeful dialogue. The sort of dialogue where characters talk about the situation they're in, in ways that nobody really talks, in order to fill the reader in on plot points.

This is such a bad book that I have given up with only 30 pages to go. It annoys me so much whenever I pick it back up and try again. I really could not care less how the book ends. The only interest in it is the small tie-ins with previous books such as Ghoul, but these aren't really explored to any extent.

Avoid this and if you're knew to Keene, pick up Dark Hollow, Dead Sea or Conqueror Worms instead of this tripe.

clog dancing Ghost Walk by Brian Keene
A good read. A stand alone story that also ties in with his other stories. If you're a Brian Keene fan you won't be disappointed.

clog dancing Walk This Way If You Dare
Keene is good at crafting a good story with compelling characters, spookiness that keep you turning the pages. When all hell breaks loose, you are sad that the ride is over. Keene explores the back woods of Central PA and takes you into those dark woods which could hold anything. Great for Halloween!
