Pidgeon series review My grandchildren and I love the "Pigeon" books. The children interact with the stories as they are read and know them by heart. Uncomplicated learning messages and illustrations easily understood by young children. Simply lots of fun!
A Pigeon to identify with! The latest in the Mo Willems library of children's picture books has our favorite Pigeon begging for a puppy!
The great and bad thing about Mo Willems' books is that the pigeon exhibits some of our children's worst habits in how he pleads, begs, whines and demands that his needs are met. There was a time I stopped reading my daughter Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!, The and Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! because I felt that pigeon was helping to contribute to these bad habits. I decided, instead, that these books are great tools to show a child what NOT to do (by emphasizing that when discussing aspects of the book with your child) and to show a child how silly these behaviors look. Aside from that, these books are just plain fun!
Any child can identify with Pigeon's childish behaviors and crazy antics. I also would recommend that if you like the pigeon books, you pick up the Trixie books Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Bccb Blue Ribbon Picture Book Awards (Awards)) & Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity. Great, fun books to read.
Not as interactive as other pigeon stories Our family loves all the pigeon stories. The Puppy version is very cute and kids can relate to the pigeon's plea. However this story has not been as much fun to read as the other pigeon stories because it is less interactive. In Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, kids get to enthusiastically tell the pigeon "no!" on almost every page which is most of the fun. This story does not give kids as much of an opportunity to play disciplinarian--a big and unusual role for a preschooler.
The Pigeon Wants a Puppy This was our first Mo Willems book and my great grandchildren loved it!
Funny, well drawn, and contains a great lesson, too. We'll be adding to our Mo Willems library.
the pigeon wants a puppy my granddaughter enjoyed this book; also she read it to her 2 yr. old sister, which help with her reading skills.
