disturbed Let me start out by saying that i did not make it entirely through this book because i bought it as a gift for my boyfriend and he took it back, but it is really freaking disturbing. Funny... but disturbing. Well, amusing maybe, i guess funny is the wrong word. i recomend it if you like kids with bees living in their skull and stuff (note that i gave it four stars).
jelloshots hi Jen, ok here's what i think you should illustrate next:
Six moral tales from Jules Laforgue, edited & translated by Frances Newman
The Cornelius Quartet: The Final Program, A Cure for Cancer, The English Assassin, The Condition of Muzak
Exploits/Opinions Dr Faust
The Blue Bird: a Fairy Play in Six Acts
The Nag Hammadi Library
Maldoror and the Complete Works of the Comte de Lautréamont
The Lost Estate (Le Grand Meaulnes) (Penguin Classics)
ok take your pick. right. so they think i'll spill a four dollar coffee drink while talking to you in a super rare book stall? haha ok send me a note at the Obelisk page... yours, CASEY O
The Spoil of a Poor Man's Mind To be honest, I was already aware that JellyFist was not a seller. As if my friends telling me not to waste me money wasn't enough, I was willing to receive the book for free. It took only a few moments of scanning the pages that I realized this book was worse than I imagined.
The jokes weren't clever nor were they executed in a matter to make a decent excuse. As for the sexual jokes, they seemed more like desperate attempts to achieve the valuable goal of being "disturbing" than anything worth 8 dollars, let alone 2 cents. This comic book is nothing like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Invader Zim, or any of Vasquez's past works. The only thing that can be compared between JTHM and JellyFist is the slow deterioration of Vasquez's work.
As far as Jenny Goldberg's partake in this mess, she did well on the artwork. Only the artwork. That was the only inviting thing about this piece. The witting is incoherent, and possibly only the deepest Vasquez fans might make sense out of this mindless dribble. If there is a reason of why you might buy the book for the conversations between Goldberg and Vasquez, then save your money. You can probably find something similar on the internet.
It can easily be summarized in what my friend told me, "I wouldn't be found dead reading that thing".
-For anyone who disagrees with me, I am a huge Vasquez fan. I find this kind of comic greatly disappointing. It's just my opinion.
A let down!! I love Jhonen Vasquez, but I was very disapointed in this book. It seems like he was just trying to put a product out no matter what the quality.
WRETCH,SPEW....HAHAHA? WRETCH,SPEW....EW! AH! EVEN WIERDER THAN FILLERBUNNY & REVENGE OF FILLERBUNNY! FOR THOSE WHO HAVE IMAGINATIONS JUST AS STRANGE AS JHONEN VASQUEZ & J. GOLDBERG! THESE TWO ARE TRULY STRANGE ARTISTS AND STORYTELLERS!
I WILL STICK WITH INVADER ZIM!
