 It's not "Chariot", but it's no less amazing
I'm a very selective person when it comes to the actual purchase of an album. 9 times out of 10 you hear one or two songs that you like, and the rest of the songs just sit there, being too awful to listen to. When I bought this album, I had extremely high expectations. After all, I put "Chariot" up on a very high pedestal. It has joined the ranks of "The Joshua Tree" and "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in my music collection. To make things even harder for Gavin, I had just seen him play live at a small club in Jacksonville Beach and was almost moved to tears by his amazing performance. He has now raised the bar even higher. Needless to say, this album is not "Chariot." It's actually better. Gavin not only shows the grittier, harder side of his talent, but he also shows that he's not afraid to take risks. He could've used the same winning formula that made "Chariot" the breakthrough album that it became, but instead he tossed it aside, and chose to show his fans AND his critics his versatility. Although I miss the sentimental tone of "Chariot", I can relate to dirtier, more raw sound of this album. Life (and especially Love), is not always pretty melodies and sentimental lyrics. Gavin was just trying to remind us of that.

I love his new album. I bought it the day it came out and I think all the new songs are great. Hopefully the next one won't take so long to come out!
 Good Stuff!
I love Gavin Degaw's music! His voice is passionate and penetrating. I think Mr. Degraw is one of the most talented artists out there. It would be quite easy to be over critical of this CD. It does have more pop undertones that Chariot. However, the overall sound is GREAT! My favorites are In Love with a Girl, I Have You to Thank, Let it Go and We Belong Together. How many of us writing reviews could churn out 12 songs for a CD? I will be a fan...Forever!
Good but not great
Given my generous nature, I'm probably being a bit generous giving this CD 4 stars. 3.5 is closer to my actual feelings. While I love DeGraw's voice I find the songs somewhat repetitive. Once you've heard a few you've pretty much heard the entire cd. Still, In Love With A Girl is a great song and one I enjoy over and over again.
I honestly do like all the songs on this CD, there isn't a bad one on their, but there also isn't really an outstanding one either. Simply put I prefer to spread the songs out through a playlist rather than listen to it all at once.
